Customer / Luminaire manufacturer
Snep Lighting Oy (former Purso)
The story
When a new five-story department building at Jorvi Hospital in Espoo was completed in early 2026, the efforts put into the lighting design and implementation were visible for everyone. Hospital environments call for carefully controlled, flicker-free illumination that supports both the working conditions of the hospital staff as well as patient recovery – across multiple spaces and rooms. SNEP® Mode CR luminaire family was chosen for the project: a flexible lighting line solution built around Helvar Components’ DALI-2 LED drivers, delivering the energy efficiency, precise control and dimming, high-quality optical design and reliable performance that a demanding healthcare environment requires.
The challenge
- Provide high-quality, glare- and flicker-free illumination across a wide variety of hospital spaces from corridors to lobby spaces and cafeterias.
- Deliver an easy-to-install, energy-efficient lighting solution with versatile DALI-2 control features suitable for a large, complex building.

“This project demonstrates how Finnish lighting expertise can meet the demanding requirements of even the most challenging healthcare facilities.”

The solution
The lighting in many sections of the new Jorvi Hospital building was implemented using the SNEP® Mode CR product family, manufactured by Purso (now Snep Lighting Oy). Inside those luminaires, Helvar Components’ HE-DA Series LED drivers provide the energy-efficient, precisely controlled light output that made Mode CR the right choice for this environment.
Electrical design for the project was handled by Ramboll Finland Oy. The SNEP® luminaire range was selected for its ease of installation, recycled aluminium frame and domestic supply chain – and Purso worked closely with the project team to optimise wiring, fixing features and module dimensions to meet the specific requirements of each space.
As an example in the corridor areas, a single mains connection and high-wattage driver models power long lighting runs along the hospital corridors, simplifying installation and reducing wiring complexity on a tightly scheduled project.
Luminaires used in the project:
- SNEP® Mode CR product family: High-efficiency modular LED lighting line solution. In this project installed in spaces such as corridors, cafeterias and lobbies. Equipped with Helvar Components LL80HE-DA-100-800 and LL50HE-DA-80-550 LED Drivers
What makes the DALI-2 controllable HE-DA driver range particularly well-suited to a hospital setting:
- Flicker-free dimming from 1–100%: Critical for patient comfort and for light-sensitive patients in particular – amplitude dimming compliant with IEEE 1789-2015 eliminates any risk of perceptible flicker across the full dimming range.
- Precise and versatile DALI-2 control: Each lighting line can be independently controlled and configured, supporting the varied lighting needs across hospital corridors and other public areas within the same building.
- Energy efficiency by design: Helvar Components’ HE series drivers deliver market-leading efficiency, ensuring the hospital’s lighting system keeps energy consumption and lifecycle operating costs as low as possible across continuous operation.
- Smart Data onboard: DALI memory banks 251–253 enable energy monitoring and diagnostics across the installation, supporting the building’s long-term energy performance reporting requirements.
- EL-certified DC central battery system compatibility: Should the facility so require, each single LED driver can operate on DC input and switches into emergency lighting level (15 % by default) when AC supply is changed into to a centralized DC emergency power supply.
- Multiple power versions: Flexible output current, voltage and power ratings (up to 165 W) available across the driver range allow for many different luminaire and lighting line designs and lumen levels even in longer runs.

Lighting designed around people
Different areas of the new building presented their own requirements, and the combination of SNEP® Mode CR luminaires and Helvar Components DALI-2 drivers answered them consistently. In the patient corridors, an even, continuous line of light directs illumination sideways – away from the eyes of patients being transported on beds. In the lobby, high luminous output lines with professional optical design deliver generous, glare-free lighting that fits the scale of the tall space without disturbing visitors or staff. In the cafeteria, the same luminaire family installed at lower height creates a welcoming atmosphere that supports the space’s usage and comfort.
The project was structured with a precise floor-by-floor construction schedule requiring luminaire deliveries to arrive in multiple coordinated batches. Helvar Components helped providing the LED drivers while Purso achieved an extraordinarily high supply security rate in the project.

“Reliability and long service life are also essential for lighting control gear, helping to minimise disruptions to hospital operations. Hospital facilities are costly, and their utilisation is intended to be kept as high as possible. Any equipment failure or maintenance work can interfere with the use of these critical spaces.”

Comments from the project
“In healthcare environments, the importance of lighting extends far beyond simply providing visibility. In the Jorvi project, our goal was to create a safe, comfortable, and energy-efficient environment for thousands of people using the facilities every day.
With the SNEP® Mode CR solution, we were able to provide the customer with a unified lighting concept across a wide range of spaces, while maintaining high-quality light and seamless integration with the building automation system.
This project demonstrates how Finnish lighting expertise can meet the demanding requirements of even the most challenging healthcare facilities.”

“In hospitals, reliable 1–100% dimming is particularly important due to the needs of light-sensitive patients. In medical imaging, for example, spaces sometimes need to be dimmed to near-darkness when viewing e.g. X-ray images on screens.
Reliability and long service life are also essential for lighting control gear, helping to minimise disruptions to hospital operations. Hospital facilities are costly, and their utilisation is intended to be kept as high as possible. Any equipment failure or maintenance work can interfere with the use of these critical spaces.”
Heljä Korhonen | Team Leader, Electrical Engineering (Healthcare), Ramboll Oy
“From a patient perspective, lighting creates a safe and comfortable care environment that supports well-being and recovery. For healthcare professionals, high-quality lighting provides excellent working conditions around the clock.
In particular, glare-free lighting and the ability of lighting to support alertness during shift work improve workplace ergonomics, reduce strain, and contribute to patient safety.”
