What is smart data

Smart Data is Helvar Components’ brand for advanced, standardized data banks embedded in our LED drivers. Built on DALI Parts 251, 252, and 253, Smart Data enables real-time access to luminaire, energy, and diagnostic information—helping lighting professionals monitor, manage, and optimize their systems more effectively.

Smart Data is available in both:

Helvar Components DALI LED drivers (certified through DALI Alliance)

Helvar Components Freedom LED drivers, readable via wireless systems such as Casambi (although not certified through DALI standards, the contents are built in the same way based on those specifications)

Encodes key product and manufacturing information into each luminaire

Manufacturer and GTIN

Year/week of manufacture

Power ratings and voltage range

CRI, CCT, colour, and distribution type

Benefit: Enables automated commissioning and digital asset management for facility owners and installers

Energy Data (DALI 252)

Provides accurate, measurable energy usage data from individual luminaires:

Active and apparent energy and power

Load-side energy readings

Benefit: Monitor real-time and cumulative energy use per luminaire — without external power meters.
Supports BREEAM and other building certifications with energy monitoring as one of scoring criteria.

Diagnostics Data (DALI 253)

Delivers detailed diagnostic insights from your luminaires:

Operating time and counters

Supply voltage, power factor, temperature

Fault and failure conditions for control gear and light sources

Benefit: Enables predictive maintenance, faster troubleshooting, and minimized downtime.

Accessing smart data

Via NFC

Using a FEIG NFC reader and Helvar Driver Configurator software (for cumulative and counter data)

Via DALI bus

1. Through DALI-USB interface with Helvar Driver Configurator software.

2. Integration with DALI-capable Building Management System or cloud software with dashboard to gather the data for e.g. facility managers. This option enables the full, live Smart Data sets from connected drivers

Wirelessly

Through control systems and services such as ActiveAhead, Casambi, or Helvar Insights. As with the DALI bus too, this option enables the full, live Smart Data sets from all connected drivers that support Smart Data.
